Title: Securing the IT Gateway from Stealthy Cyber Attackers

Abstract: The IT network is a completely different beast from the OT network and industrial control systems that fuel the Oil & Gas industry. Yet cyber attackers are using stealthy tactics and techniques targeting the IT network to gain a foothold in the critical operational environment. How are the adversaries getting in? A recent Dragos report indicates that, “The abuse of valid accounts was the number one technique used by named threats.”
Securing the IT network, therefore, is essential for protecting the Oil & Gas sector at large. The implications of enterprise network attacks such as ransomware can be debilitating, as the Colonial Pipeline attack demonstrated. IronNet CISO Fernando Maymi, Ph.D., CISSP, will lead a discussion on shared lessons for securing the industry through a collective defense approach and how to operationalize this collaborative strategy through training, the real-time sharing of anonymized attack intelligence, and crowdsourcing triage insights.
