Keynote Presentation: “Humanizing Cyber Crime: Pivoting from Fear toward Resilience” by Gary Berman

Abstract:  

Gary Berman is the creator and host of the award-winning Cyber Hero Adventures Show. As attendees, you will gain insights into his “Forrest Gump” journey into the digital universe by reviewing actual evidence of the APT cyber attacks that caused him to lose his business and millions of dollars. You will laugh out loud as he shares his unbelievable experiences from victim to advocate, including the creation of super hero comics for the cybersecurity community and beyond.

Gary will share his first-hand accounts of surviving a cyber attack and how he recovered by creating psychological air to breathe in the midst of the chaos. Cyber crime victims many times do not share their experiences out of shame or failure to understand the severity of an attack. You will learn how to respond to an incident or other cybersecurity breaches and come to understand how he was able to find lightheartedness during this journey.

Come prepared to participate as Gary will engage with both the in-person and virtual audience leading to a lively audience discussion regarding the challenges and opportunities facing the ONG Community.

Speaker Bio:  Gary L. Berman, Host of The Cyber Hero Adventures Show Creator of cyberheroescomics.com

Gary is CEO of Cyberman Security, LLC and refers to himself as the “Forrest Gump” of Cybersecurity – his 30-year career focused on strategic, high-level marketing communications and data analysis. Until recently, he knew very little about technology and even less about cybersecurity. Prompted by the devastating effects of losing his company to a persistent series of insider attacks, he began to attend cybersecurity conferences.

Fifty meetings later, Gary pivoted from victim to advocate, helping others avoid the life-altering consequences of hacking. The super hero comic series and animated platform “The CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe,” distills complex cybersecurity concepts through real-life stories, and shine the light on the true cybersecurity heroes who toil in anonymity to keep all of us safe online. Gary has more than 23,000 followers on LinkedIn and has recorded 100 shows showcasing the work of 300 cybersecurity leaders.

Gary began his career as founder & CEO of Market Segment Research, a leading firm specializing in the demassification of American marketing. Clients included AT&T, Best Buy, Ford, General Motors, P&G and many other Fortune 500 firms. His research on multicultural markets led him to an appointment on President Clinton’s Commission on Race. Gary is married to Valerie and is dad to two daughters.
